Scarborough

We drove over the picturesque Yorkshire Dales on our way to Scarborough, and stopped at Fountains Abbey, a World Heritage Site. This huge Cistercian abbey was founded in 1132. In its time it was the richest in Europe.

Deserted cloisters

A long way to the altar

Lovely grounds - 320 hectares

At Scarborough we had an enjoyable long weekend at Suzanne's (she stayed with us in February). Hospitality exchange works well!
The North Beach (right) is quiet compared to the South Beach (below) on this beautiful Sunday.

Lunch at Suzanne's wee orange hut

Scarborough Castle, built by Henry II in the 12th century.

Decorated in modern times by wild flowers.
