Dingle Peninsula

We had a lovely week here - a cosy cottage, beautiful scenery & friendly locals. We spent more time than planned with the cottage owners as we returned to collect the summer clothes put in the wardrobe & not worn! The weather included regular heavy showers, mist over the hills & then rain. Temps were 12 - 19. The Irish are having their 2nd bad summer in a row. However, we did manage to do & see most things.

Our first view

Anascaul village

The language of road signs are an issue here. We were given a badly copied map with no English names. Some signs are only in Irish. So a few extra kms were travelled!

Houses lived in during potato famine times (& spruced up since then!) This isolated area particularly suffered & the stories were dreadful to read. Political decisions also contributed, as food was exported while the locals starved.

Bog ponies, recently rescued from extinction.

Beehive huts, occupied from early Christian times until 1200 AD

Ancient church & carved stones.

Conor Pass

Big climb to beautiful view.
